Pony Express Rider

Preserving the Legend. Sharing the Story. Inspiring Generations.

The Pony Express National Museum exists to preserve, interpret, and share the remarkable story of the Pony Express and the courageous riders who carried the mail across a young and expanding nation. Located in historic St. Joseph, Missouri, the museum stands at the birthplace of one of the most legendary chapters of the American West.

Through immersive exhibits, preserved artifacts, and engaging educational programs, the museum brings history to life and connects visitors to the determination, innovation, and grit that defined the Pony Express.

OUR STORY

The Pony Express may have operated for only a brief period, but its impact on American history was profound. The riders’ commitment to speed, reliability, and endurance helped unite the country at a critical moment in time and captured the imagination of generations to follow.

Today, the Pony Express National Museum honors that legacy by safeguarding artifacts, sharing authentic stories, and creating meaningful experiences for visitors of all ages. From hands-on exhibits to special events and educational programs, the museum serves as a place where history is not only remembered, but experienced.
